Broken Sewage Pipe Not Only Nasty Issue at Yakima Home
By Maria Medina
YAKIMA -- Renters told Action News last week their landlord refused to repair the damage to a broken pipe that was spewing sewage into their basement, but now the homeowner is speaking out and wants his renters to leave.
Wayne Baughman said he went to the home on 4th Street and Pacific to fix the broken sewage pipe his renters complained about a few weeks ago. The Sanders claim they've not only lived with the smell of sewage for weeks, but had to go to friend's homes and gas stations to use water. Baughman met with KIMA and he argued that he's gone to the home with hired help, but the Sanders won't let them in. "They didn't even answer the door," Baughman said. "How can you lie," Jude Sanders yelled at Baughman during his interview with Action News. "How can you lie like that, Wayne." KIMA looked at the Landlord-Tenant Act, and it says Baughman is responsible for repairing the sewage pipe within 3 days. The landlord said he wants the Sanders out this week, and is willing to give them back their deposit plus May's rent, but under that same act Baughman must give the family a 20-day notice to leave his property. |
