TOPPENISH -- Some Whitman students took center stage at a meeting tonight.

The college kids talked about case studies they did in towns throughout the valley, dealing with Latino voting rights and getting them more involved.

The say towns like Yakima, Granger, Pasco and Walla Walla all face the same troubles when it comes to reaching out to the Hispanic community.

As part of their project, the students recommended ways to get the Latino community more involved and aware.

Toppenish resident, Hilario Davila, said, "What they were saying makes a lot of sense, that there's a lot of Hispanic people in the community but they don't really represent a lot of the voting."

The students also spoke about their studies on a Latino radio station in
Granger, and to folks in Walla Walla.
