Salvaging Old Timber
By Heather Reese
The Yakima Cooperative Association is set for a big re-model, that includes tearing down an entire building. However, owners are looking to recycle the antique timber inside.
"There's some beautiful timber in here," said , "beautiful, beautiful wood." The wood is stronger and bigger than young timber. The farm supply shop is looking for a company to come in and remove wood that's salvageable, and re-use it for other buildings or homes. "If we can use it again, we aren't using natural resources," said "The great thing is we're keeping wonderful old timber out of the waste stream." It's good for the environment, and good for business. It will be cheaper to salvage the wood, instead of throwing it into a landfill. Right now, the co-op is in talks with a national organization that salvages wood from all over the country. Demolition is set for this summer. |
