Ganging Up On Graffiti
By Robin Woodson
YAKIMA -- In a town terrorized by taggers, one resident is painting up his own house to send a message to his neighbors.
The words on the side of his house say it all. This homeowner is not only fed up with graffiti in town, but the fact that it keeps coming back. "No matter how many times we call the police, the people that are caught even doing it aren't getting punished and we're stuck trying to clean up the mess," One of his neighbors said. Neighbors say it's a mess, they're all tired of looking at. And this homeowner is using it to advertise his plan. "He wants to get some people together for check up in the night, one stays up all night and then the other one stays up all night," Another neighbor told us. The homeowner wasn't home when Action News was at his door, but neighbors say for the past couple of years, his goal has been to sell this house. But before he can get the for sale sign out, another mark shows up. His neighbors say most of the time they feel defenseless. "When we say anything, we get in trouble, but if we don't say anything, it's going to go on and on," One of the neighbors added. They also say they support his idea to catch the "cowards" and hope other neighbors join in. "All get together as homeowners and people who live in the neighborhood and start helping one another, not just to point a finger, but to make it stop," One of them explained. Neighbors say the homeowner hopes to have his neighborhood watch program by this summer. |
