SEATTLE (AP) - Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg has kicked off his campaign for Washington state attorney general with a fundraiser in Seattle.

Ladenburg is challenging Rob McKenna, a first-term Republican who launched his re-election campaign in November.

The $50-a-plate luncheon Monday was attended by some of the state's top Democrats, including Gov. Chris Gregoire, who endorsed Ladenburg as the "people's advocate."

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels hosted the event, which was also attended by state House Speaker Frank Chopp of Seattle, King County Executive Ron Sims, former Gov. Gary Locke and U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott.

Ladenburg served as Pierce County prosecutor for three terms before being elected executive.
