East Valley Residents Protest Fire District
By Maria Medina
EAST VALLEY -- A group of east valley Yakima residents protested for the second day in the last week against fire commissioners in the district they believe are wasting taxpayer's money.
On Monday afternoon a handful of residents waved signs with messages directed at east valley fire commissioners. The group stood at Terrace Heights Drive with claims commissioners don't tell them how their money's spent in the district, and direct way too much on investigations into firefighters and the now-former chief. They said they have every right to know what's going on behind closed doors, especially since the residents said those who live in east valley pay high taxes. The group's also upset that the station off of Terrace Heights Drive is unmanned. The east valley fire district operates mostly on volunteer firefighters. |
