Classes canceled at Davis due to odor at construction site

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Regional was briefly put on lock down Thursday afternoon for a possible haz-mat situation.

Hospital officials said construction workers digging at Davis High School were exposed to an unknown substance. It was later determined to be non-hazardous.

"They came into contact with a chemical. They were brought here to the hospital and decontaminated as a precaution," said hospital spokesperson Debra Yergen.

Nobody was seriously hurt.

Officials canceled classes Friday just to be safe. School will resume on Monday. Athletic events this weekend will continue as planned.
