Unemployment rate higher for veterans
YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA learned many of those in the armed forces come home to a bleak job market. The jobless rate for Yakima veterans is high.

The unemployment rate here in Yakima is just under nine percent. That's about two percent higher than non-veterans.

People we talked to say our government doesn't do enough.

"In some cases, veterans are coming back wounded mentally," said supporter John Putney. "They're unable to do some of the things they need to for jobs. And we've got no idea exactly how a lot of them have been effected."

Just last week, Yakima had a job fair for veterans. We learned there is a work opportunity tax credit employers can take advantage of if they hire retired military.
