3-clawed crab caught on Oregon Coast

SEASIDE, Ore. -- If you like crab claws, maybe you should go crabbing with Nathan Fulton.

Fulton caught a crab with three pinchers on Oct. 18.

He donated the crab to the Seaside Aquarium so other people could take a look, too.

What caused the crab to grow an extra claw?

Tiffany Boothe at the Seaside Aquarium said crabs shed their shells as they grow new ones in a process called "molting."

Sometimes a crab is injured while molting, which can cause strange deformities in the crab's shell, Boothe said.
