YAKIMA, Wash. -- New information on the officer-involved shooting in Yakima. Police now believe the blood found in a hotel room was the victim's.

Police responded to a welfare check at Joseph Ricard's home in Yakima. That's after deputies in Packwood found a lot of blood in a hotel room Ricard rented.

When officers arrived, Ricard was in the backyard with a rifle. An officer and Ricard both fired shots. Ricard eventually killed himself. Police moved in and noticed a large bandage on his arm.

"The theory is that he probably tried to cut his wrist himself and was unsuccessful and then returned to Yakima," said Capt. Rod Light, Yakima police spokesperson.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine if that's true.
