Police activity forces short lockdown for Wapato School District

WAPATO PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEWS RELEASE -- Based on information from the Wapato Police Department the Wapato School District went into a modified lockdown earlier this morning (10/12/12) as a safety precaution for all our students and staff. The District received word from the Wapato Police Department that they were looking for a reported suicidal individual somewhere in town. We had no reason to believe the individual was near any of the schools but in an effort to provide the utmost safety for our students and staff the District decided to implement the modified lockdown.

Under a modified lockdown classes are conducted as normal except students are not allowed outside for things like recess or PE.

The event started around 8:40 a.m. and ended around 10:45 a.m. without any incident.

Safety is one of our top priorities and we appreciate the flow of communication from the Wapato PD to keep everyone safe during these types of situations.
