Investigators looking into pregnant woman's death near Mattawa

GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S NEWS RELEASE -- Investigators are looking into what caused the unexpected death of a young pregnant woman Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Districts 8 and 10 and Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies were called around 3:45 p.m. October 10 to the 18300 block of Third Avenue Southwest in the community of Schwana, about five miles north or Mattawa. A 9-1-1 caller reported an 18-year-old female was unconscious and not breathing.

Citizens and firefighters delivered CPR, and the woman, who was reportedly three or four months pregnant, was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

There are no obvious signs of foul play, but due to the victim’s age and the unknown circumstances of her death, detectives and the Grant County Coroner’s Office are conducting an inquiry. An autopsy is scheduled for today, and the woman’s name will be released later by the Coroner’s Office.
