MABTON, Wash. -- The Yakima County Sheriff's Office identified the victims in the apparent shooting/suicide that happened early Monday morning in Mabton.

Action News learned the mother, 36-year-old Margarita Lepe, is in critical but stable condition after surgery at Harborview in Seattle. Her husband shot her before killing himself.

In Yakima two men were shot by an unidentified shooter.

A total of four people were shot in less than 24 hours.

"Terrible," said neighbor Alex Kadach. "It's just terrible."

Ann and Alex Kadach live just down the street from what police are calling an attempted murder/suicide.

Margarita Lepe was picking up her three children at her husband's house when the couple got into a fight.

Detectives said 36-year-old Jose Angel Lepe-Garcia shot his wife.

Officials said Garcia called his brother to come get the kids before killing himself.

Their kids, a 13-year-old girl, 10-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl were there during the shooting.

"At night, I don't tend to come out unless I have to leave."

Just this summer there were more than 260 shots fired calls and 24 actual shootings or assaults with a weapon in Yakima.

In all of 2011 there were about 470.

Guns were fired eight times so far this year in the lower valley and 3 in the upper valley. That's five fewer shootings than in 2011.

"I do get kind of worried due to the fact that I have a 3 year-old son that I kind of want to be there for," a neighbor said.

Her three kids are currently staying with relatives.
