'509 Hoes Exposed' Facebook page targets young women
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Police are trying to locate the person behind a cruel Facebook page that seemingly sprung up overnight. It targets young women across Eastern Washington posting their pictures without their permission and setting them up for disparaging critiques.
The page was called "509HoesExposed." It went live Tuesday night and was up most of the day until it was taken down sometime Wednesday.
It seems it was designed to identify young girls considered to be promiscuous around Yakima. These girls had no control over their pictures being posted, free for anyone to comment.
Action News received dozens of e-mails from girls profiled on the page who said they were mortified to find themselves under a heading that suggested they were immoral.
Under each picture were dozens of comments about their weight, their looks and other very personal information. Their pictures and names have been blurred to protect their privacy.
The insensitivity spread like wildfire across Yakima. In less than 24 hours more than two thousand people "liked" this Facebook page.
Jaimee Butler works a full-time job and lives at home. Her photo ended up on "509HoesExposed."
"I was embarrassed," Butler said. "I got really mad about it."
For her this isn't the first time. She's been cyber-bullied before and so have her friends.
"They don't want to go to school because people talk about them or post things on the Internet," she said.
Tiffany Jimenez was also targeted.
"It's just a big blow to my self esteem, a big one," Jimenez said.
Her picture ended up on the page too. By Wednesday the page was gone, but Jimenez said the harassment didn't end there.
"I have guys hitting me up on there asking me for sex. Saying 'oh I hear you are a hoe,'" she said.
It's just one of the reasons Captain Rod Light says the Yakima Police Department is taking the page very seriously.
"It is cyberbullying and anytime somebody established a site that the intent is to defame or embarrass them," Light said. "Obviously without their permission they can be subject to criminal charges."
The creators could be charged with a misdemeanor. But first detectives need a warrant to make Facebook turn over the creator's IP address.
"We'll get him," Light said.
To get all sides Action News reached out to the page's creator. We got a quick response calling our reporter a hoe as well.
The page's administrator originally agreed to an interview but didn't follow through.
Jimenez worries a page like this can have disastrous consequences.
"Somebody could end up dead from that," she said. "I mean people don't take that serious but it's very serious. It can destroy someone's character."
Yakima police said they are actively pursing the creators of the site.
Police said that it is dangerous because it can damage someone's character. If I'm not mistaken, isn't it true that libel wrecks a person's reputation.. not their character. Nobody can touch your character. Your character is who you ARE. Â

@Sahara Jade Chilson Sorry you had to endure their cruelty. I saw the page last night, and you handled it with unbelievably amazing class. You definitely won the argument, so kudos to you, Sahara!
I don't believe the girls asked to have their picture posted and called"hoes" and other names,as well as rude degrading and insulting comments made about their appearance or personalities. If you are going to exercise freedom of speech it needs to be done with the other parties knowledge so they can respond in kind. Cowards hide behind computers and call other people names. That page owner won't confess or own up. There may be more to the story, perhaps the page owner has been bullied by these girls and is trying to get back at them.Bullying is just wrong. There is a difference between free speech and hate speech. And by the way, I reported this page to FB and here is the response I got from them:
Thanks for your recent report of a potential violation on Facebook. After reviewing your report, we were not able to confirm that the specific page you reported violates Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.Learn more about what we do and don't allow by reviewing the Facebook Community Standards: https://www.facebook.com/communitystandards.Thanks,Viki
Sad,sad, sad:( I am glad the YPD is investigating and hate pages should not be allowed anywhere.

Like it or not, it's called free speech. The police getting involved is a big risk on the part of the city. Unpopular speech or plain out lies are not illegal. Resent court rulings allow people to even lie about military service without fear of criminal charges.
@hyrneh Ok. Let me get this straight. You're ok with a web page that targets, bullies, and humiliates young women. Do you realize this could cause them to be suicidal? This is widely known as "cyberbullying" which has been the cause of many teen suicides worldwide. So does this mean you're ok with teen suicide if its caused by cyberbullying?
@WTD12  @hyrneh He didn't say he is ok with the page (don't believe me? Re-read his comment.), he is simply pointing out that it is a form of free speech. Don't attack him for pointing it out.
@PSmithy101  @WTD12  @hyrneh Hate speech is not covered under the banner of free speech. The originators of the site had the intent to defame their character and to harm them, regardless of the facts. I hope they're charged with one count for each victim, and then sued by each those victims. Then we'll see who the hoes really are.
@hyrneh have you ever been bullied?  Or are you one of those that does the bulling? I am glad this page got shut down I know one of these gals that was on there not cool. and just goes to say it is some one they all new and trusted. Till you have been on the bullying side. it is not free speech. It hurts the one it is happening to in so many more ways.    I went thru it from elementary thru high school. know a days they are finally standing up and taking care of that person some it is too late they kill them selves because no one believes them.
At least the page is gone. Messed up how someone can do this.
