14-year-old behind bars following high-speed pursuit

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- A 14-year-old in Sunnyside is behind bars for stealing a car and taking it out on a joyride.

Police said they responded to reports about a stolen car in the 700 block of East Grant Avenue in Sunnyside Thursday.

Officers then spotted the vehicle on Alexander Road near Midvale Road. The suspect led officers on a 100 mile per hour pursuit that lasted for about two miles.

The pursuit eventually ended south on Waneta Road when the kid lost control of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Officers said they don't know if the suspect has any gang ties.

They said the victim in this case had left the keys to the vehicle in the ignition while it was parked at their residence.
