YAKIMA, Wash. -- Police documents say the main suspect in the case, 19-year-old Lameiro Flores, admitted to shooting the two victims Monday afternoon near the Naches River.
A judge set bail at $2 million for Flores. His family objected to allowing cameras in the courtroom, but the judge allowed them.
Flores told police he shot the victims, a 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old Jobany B. Martinez, because he claimed they had assaulted him in the past and feared they would do it again.
The documents also reveal that Flores told police he was swimming with friends and brought a .45 caliber gun with him because he had a "gut feeling."
Flores saw the two victims who told him "catch you later," according to the documents. He told detectives he took that as a threat.
Flores also told investigators that he shot the 17-year-old once, walked up to him and then shot him in the head.
He told them he then turned and shot Martinez in the head and he would have shot a third man but he ran away.
Police recovered Flores' handgun which they said was concealed in his car.

Letâs see both the victims were know gang members (nortenos or some crap) already with criminal records at the age of 17 and 18. The writing is on the wall for how their adult life would have been, guaranteed felons with constant trouble following them and tax payers paying for there jail time and assigned council. The alleged suspect is 19, no gang affiliation, no criminal record. I have a very, very good feeling this is a case were the suspect had been bullied by these tough guys for years. The suspect cracked and did what he did. It is what it is. Do I agree with it no, but letâs be honest here he may have done the streets of Yakima a favor.Â

Pete the dramatics you express are way over the top. Yakima is not a war zone come on with the theatrics.  Is the shooting horrible and unfortunate of course it is. I usually walk there on my lunch break when the weather is agreeable. So yeah the place it happened at compounds the gravity of the situation. But compared to other cities and their violent crime rates it pales in comparison. Note I said VIOLENT CRIMES. So you family is afraid to go ANYWHERE outside in Yakima come on please enough already.  Yakima has made large strides. Do we need more work of course most cities do. As in most cities if you do not place yourself in bad situations and around bad people odds are more then likely you will stay out of trouble. With that said of course sometimes bad stuff happens to good people minding their own business. But the pot stirring by people like you yelling fire in a crowded room doesn't help. Be real and lets look at the situation unbiased and without the agenda. Uneducated comments like yours are based on no merit and posted with bad emotions and bad intentions.
Not looking very good for Flores thus far, that is a pretty large bail!
I am sure YPD is looking into all evidence as to the reasoning why given by the detained young man. It is a viable defense to claim self defense but I feel it will be a long road to walk as according the story there likely seems there was no imminent threat of life though argued a threat of life or limb. Will his account of the circumstances hold up, we will see. Another issue that comes to mind is being under the age of 21 and being in legal possession of the firearm and if it was loaded prior to the incident. RCW 9A.16.050 Homicide â By other person â When justifiable. Homicide is also justifiable when committed either: (1) In the lawful defense of the slayer, or his or her husband, wife, parent, child, brother, or sister, or of any other person in his or her presence or company, when there is reasonable ground to apprehend a design on the part of the person slain to commit a felony or to do some great personal injury to the slayer or to any such person, and there is imminent danger of such design being accomplished; or (2) In the actual resistance of an attempt to commit a felony upon the slayer, in his or her presence, or upon or in a dwelling, or other place of abode, in which he or she is. RCW 9.41.240 Possession of pistol by person from eighteen to twenty-one. Unless an exception under RCW 9.41.042, 9.41.050, or 9.41.060 applies, a person at least eighteen years of age, but less than twenty-one years of age, may possess a pistol only: (1) In the person's place of abode; (2) At the person's fixed place of business; or (3) On real property under his or her control.
I agree Dawnie C, grew up in Yakima and it isn't the city I know from my youth. I graduated from Davis back in the 70's and I loved Yakima. Yakima now is a war zone and I'm sure we know what creating this environment. I do not currently live in Yakima but have relatives that do and they are afraid to go anyplace for fear of being murdered. I'm not shy to say it is time to enforce our immigration laws the populace will be better for it.
This should be a death penelty case, but we know here in Yakima that won't happen. It's sad how Yakima has become, this used to be a safe city, not anymore, thanks to people like the shooter.
@Dawni C. I agree with you. If you kill someone you deserve the death penalty. Yakima seems to be easy on criminals. Its sad to see Yakima go downÂ
