YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima's budget and new police cars for the police department became a hot topic on the KIMA Facebook page.
You wanted to know how Yakima could afford 15 new patrol cars for $540,000. This came after City Manager Tony O'Rourke told Council members that Yakima could wind up with a four-million dollar shortfall.
O'Rourke told KIMA the money for the cars came from the general fund that's in good standing.
YPD doesn't replace every car each year. Cars are replaced every four to five years.

Kind of hard to catch crooks in slow, old shiddy cars.Â
They did the same thing here in my small town a few years ago. The city was close to bankruptcy, the books were audited. Then a few months later we had a new car for each cop, & later renovated our community center(we still don't know why). Then, soon after those small flat, led lights were seen on TV cop cars, we had them on ours.
Our town hasn't stopped spending money since. Many former city council members (Drs. & a few business owners) have no idea why these things were done, nor where the money came from. This town is run by a very few select people & the city council is just for show.
