Want to help deputies track sex offenders? You’re one click away
YAKIMA – They’re a parent's nightmare, and KIMA learned there are over 130 here in Yakima to keep minds filled with worry. We’re talking about sex offenders shacking up in your neighborhood. Right now, there are over 20 with no listed address, but there's something you can do to help keep them tracked.
"She's everything to in the world to me,” said mother Bridgette Fouts. “I'd do anything for her."
Like any mom out there, Bridgette is constantly worried about the safety of her baby girl.
"If anything happened to her, I don't know what I'd do,” she said. “I'd lose it."
And now, she's added one more concern to her list, actually make that 23 more. That's the number of transient sex offenders in Yakima.
"There are a lot of bad things that are happening and they get away with it so it's happening a lot more often,” Bridgette said.
But now there's something she can do to possibly make it less often. The Sheriff's Office is now taking tips and corrections from you. All you have to do is pull up an offender, click on the link right below their picture, and submit what you know.
"We always prefer you leave your real name (so we can contact you in the future if need be,)" said YSO Records Supervisor, CarriAnn Ross.
Ross told KIMA those tips and clicks can mean one less offender roaming free.
"We get a lot of information from the public,” she said. “A lot of times, it's initiated because someone calls and checks."
Bridgette said she plans to be one of those someone's, being extra eyes and ears for police.
"The cops aren't always around,” she said. “There is always people around. People see more and we are more aware of things."
Because awareness is love to parents like Bridgette.
The same spot where you can submit tips to YSO, you can also register to track specific offenders. You will be notified if anything with that person changes in the system.
