Medical marijuana users “confused” over city code
YAKIMA - Yakima's Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend an amendment to city code prohibiting medical marijuana growing operations.
Governor Chris Gregoire recently made a big push last month to reduce punishment for marijuana. She wants the DEA to reclassify it as a "schedule two" drug. Wednesday’s move by the commission would keep Yakima in line with the federal ban on growing operations. People at the meeting tell us they wish things were clearer.
"I was personally on massive pain killers, now I'm on none because of it,” said Donald Verney. “They just push things around where people don't know what is going on and they're getting everyone confused on it. That's what they're doing."
The planning commission says the amendment would only impact distributors, not users. City council will discuss the recommendation on January 17th.
