ELLENSBURG -- A Central Washington University student legislative committee is drafting its own bill to submit to the state. It would prevent the state from using tuition in the general fund.

Currently, the state has legal access to student tuition. University administrators tell KIMA a recent poll shows 80 percent of students agree with the bill.

Casey Demory is a Junior at CWU. She is in support of the bill.

"It's our money, it's our parents' money and it's our student loans that we're going to have to pay back, and if we give it to the state and to legislation, then that's not our money being used towards our education- and that's what we're paying it for," Mowry said.

The students hope to have the bill drafted after the holidays.
