WEST VALLEY - Action News discovered West Valley Middle School is working to get every student a set-of books that can be left at home.

Health is the main reason why.

The schools says a backpack full of books can sometimes weigh as much as the student.

Allowing kids to leave a set of books at home, means less stress on kids' shoulders and backs.

"My oldest son went to a school where they had to carry all the their textbooks and his back hurt really bad...and he actually still has a shoulder issue because of it," said Liberty Andis, who has a son at West Valley.

Currently only sixth graders can leave their books at home, but the school is now working to give fifth graders the same advantage.
