Highway 12 Road Projects Explained
WHITE PASS -- During the repaving there is the possibility of up to two-hour delays -- Beginning at Rimrock lake.
Crews are repaving roads -- so expect a 30-minute delay there.
The next time you'll see a flagger is just over White Pass.
It's another repaving project with up to a half-hour delay.
A few miles beyond that -- crews will be trying to stabilize a slope.
Delays there are about 45-minutes.
then, finally, between Randle and Morton -- another repaving project that will delay you up to 20 minutes.
KIMA spoke to drivers up on the pass who chose to chance the trip anyway.
"I've been pretty lucky," said Larry Saltz. "I've hit them pretty good. When I do have a delay I do kinda enjoy sitting around resting."
"Not in the middle of the summer," said another driver. "I would think spring or fall would be a better time to do it. Seems like we got two seasons around this country, and that's winter and construction and we just have to live with both of them."
The state told me crews are on schedule to complete the projects by September first.
They say the construction window is very short and they needed the August weather to get the job done right.
It's also important to keep in mind, there are no construction delays on highway 12 during the weekend -- Only on weekdays.
State Route 410 is the detour. It will add about 20 miles to your trip to the west side.
