Senator Patty Murray Talks Jobs In Yakima
YAKIMA -- A plan to get the economy back on its feet will partly come from a lower unemployment rate. That was part of the goal for Senator Patty Murray's visit to Yakima today.
She was promoting legislation to pay for job retraining programs.
"We have to do a better job as a nation at bridging that skills gap," Murray says. "If we want America to be in a position to compete in the next century, we're going to have to have workers with the right skills in places right here in Yakima."
Murray took a tour of G-E Aviation. She says there are more than a thousand open jobs right here in Yakima, yet too few skilled workers to fill them.
Yakima's unemployment is right under 10%.
