CRIME TRACKER: Property Crime Down in Grandview
GRANDVIEW -- Property crime is down across the board in Grandview.
For better or for worse, Grandview is no longer the town Jennel Dompier grew up in. Back in the good ol' days, no one worried about thieves, but not anymore.
"Growing up we always left our doors open, and now you really can't do that anymore."
Fortunately for Dompier, KIMA spotted positive news in Grandview neighborhoods: property crimes are down across the board.
Compared to this time last year, burglaries and thefts have dropped by a quarter, while car thefts have been slashed by a third.
Grandview police tell Action News many of those crimes were committed by the same people, meaning crime can drop significantly when just a few get caught.
"When certain people in the city are in jail, we see crime go down across the board. Right now some of those key people are in jail," says Travis Shephard, Grandview Police.
KIMA learned assaults are also down.
There have been no murders this year in Grandview.
That's on par with last year.
