PROSSER -- The Action News Crime Tracker is keeping tabs on what's happening in Prosser.

Crime stats are out for 2010 and violent crime fell 14%.

But Prosser did have its first murder in 15 years. That is still under investigation.

When you look at non-violent crime, the numbers are up nearly 16% compared to the previous year.

There were more burglaries and more thefts.

Auto thefts alone are up 40%.

"One of the things we may have lacked in the past is educating the public. We are a sleepy community and I remember growing up you parked your car in the driveway and left keys in the ignition. We're in different times we have to be cognizant and take proper precautions," said Prosser Police Chief Patrick McCullough.

A Prosser detective recently received special training on auto theft prevention.
