City Council Bids Farewell to Sam Granato

YAKIMA -- After seven years as the Yakima Police Department's Chief, Sam Granato's time is done.

The City Council thanked him for his service at Tuesday night’s meeting. They highlighted his success in establishing gang units and beefing up patrols. Granato tells us his resignation is bittersweet, and he’s leaving with very fond memories.

“As a leader, you always get rocks thrown at you, and you have to have a tough hide,” he said. “I don't have any regrets about Yakima. We made many good friends here, great friends."

Granato told KIMA his immediate plans are to vacation in Texas and do a little fishing. His settlement with the city includes severance pay of $100,000.
