Medicaid Help
YAKIMA -- Terry Pruitt spent seven weeks trying to get through to medicaid using a new toll free number. He never got through. When he tried to get help through DSHS, he was just sent back to the toll free number. That's when he called KIMA.
"It's frustrating, you go down to DSHS and when I change my address I just moved here and I asked them about it and they said you have to call your Congressmen and I don't think we should have to be playing politics for something that should be available to everybody," says Terry.
We also tried to get through with no luck. We called the state and found it's a budget issue. The call staff at Medicaid was cut by two-thirds. While the number of beneficiaries are increasing to almost 1.1 million in the state of Washington. but we did learn changes are on the way for the call system.
In the meantime, if you're having the same problem, go to DSHS and ask for a supervisor.
