A Uniform Success in Grandview
GRANDVIEW -- Bland colors have meant bright results for Compass High School.
White, beige and nothing else. It's a combination that's working for Compass High School.
It's been a year since KIMA first told you about the switch at Compass, requiring kids to wear uniforms. Since a new school year starts in two weeks, we followed up to see if the uniform rule has made any difference.
Action News pulled the numbers and discovered positive results. In one year, the number of suspensions was cut in half, from 15 to 7.
On the same note, more people graduated from Compass High School this past year than at any other time in the school's history.
School officials say Compass's small population helps. With a class size of just 105, students get a lot more attention.
But a year after the switch, some students are still adjusting to the world of white and beige.
"We don't have the choice to express ourselves like who we are," says one student. "We have to wear the same thing like everyone else."
But with half the suspensions and more kids graduating, uniforms are the new reality of high school life.
