Yakimas plans to assume airport move along quickly

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima will soon be the sole owner of the airport.

Tuesday night, Yakima city's manager presented to council a draft of the city's contract with county.

In it, the county agrees to split 2012's loss with the city. However, once-signed, the city will be fully responsible for future losses.

One neighbor thinks it will be a good move for the city.

"Money is just hemorrhaging from the airport. So, I think the city could do a much better job of handling that," Candy Turner said.

The county is giving it's half share of the airport to the city for free.
It's expected to make it official next week.
