Yakima rings in the New Year with two shootings

Yakima rings in the New Year with two shootings
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Two shootings are already on the books this year for Yakima. Two men were shot in the leg minutes apart and less than an hour into the new year. Right now, police don't think the cases are connected.

The first happened in the 500 block of North Sixth street. Police say a 26-year-old was sitting in a parked car when another car pulled up and someone inside fired several rounds.

Less than 15 minutes later, a 27-year-old was shot on North Fifth Avenue while walking down the street with friends.

Neighbors tell us they're worried this could mean more crime this year.

"For a small town, there's a lot of stuff going on here," said new Yakima resident Joseph Langley. "There really is. I really don't like this area, this part of the neighborhood. "

Police say both victims are expected to survive. Both shootings are believed to be carried out by gang members.
