Yakima City Council votes down e-cigarette ban

Yakima City Council votes down e-cigarette ban
Show Caption
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima City Council has rejected a proposal to ban the use of e-cigarettes in public places.

At a Tuesday meeting, the council voted 4-3 against the plan, which would have subjected the electronic vaporizers to the same regulations as tobacco cigarettes.

Council members Micah Cawley, Kathy Coffey, Rick Ensey, and Bill Lover opposed the proposal. They said there is not yet sufficient proof that the vapor e-cigarettes produce is dangerous.

E-cigarettes use a heating element to vaporize a liquid solution containing nicotine.

Council members Dave Ettl, Thomas Dittmar and Maureen Adkison voted in favor of the proposed ordinance.
