WAPATO, Wash. -- KIMA is following up on an open field in Wapato that was filled with trash. It's just blocks away from downtown, and while it is on tribal land, the city does take some of the responsibility.
Just a few months ago the field was filled with furniture, garbage and beer bottles. Since our story, Wapato inmates worked to clean up the area.
The area was clean for a few weeks, but police say people have littered the area once more. Action News cameras spotted people hanging in the area and leaving empty bottles.
Wapato police say they can't technically patrol the area, but they will continue to help clean it up.
"It's one of the entrances to our city, so we want to give a good impression to folks that are coming in," said interim Police Chief Tracy Rosenow. "That is not a good impression."
