Yakima family grieves loss of teen after hunting death
YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA learned new information on a Yakima teen who was fatally shot last month while hunting with his family.

Investigators said Sergio Tinajero was not shot by someone in his party. The 16-year old Ike student was found dead in Pend Oreille County. Detectives are still looking for an explanation of what happened that day.

"I still can't process it, it's still a shock to me but, he was a really good kid, he didn't deserve this," said Brenda Tinajero, Sergio's aunt.

At just 16 years old, Sergio Tinajero's tragic death came all too soon. Leaving his family mourning a heavy loss. Tinajero's cousins and sister said he was always happy and easily made friends anywhere he went.

"He was really funny, he made a lot of jokes, he always knew when to make you laugh," said Leslie Tinajero, Sergio's sister.

His family says hunting was an activity that he loved, it was something all the men in the family bonded over. Unfortunately, it was also what led to his untimely death.

"I still can't process it, honestly I still can't process it, it's still not there yet, I'm just waiting for him to walk in," said Brenda Tinajero.

Deputies say while hunting in Pend Oreille County last month, Tinajero separated from the group and his body was found a couple hours later. Investigators were in Yakima last week, they say bullets didn't match weapons from any of the boy's family.

But, they're still looking for answers to how a family hunting trip ended with a 16 year old shot dead. As questions remain, his family is left heartbroken supporting each other in this troubled time.

"I never said I loved him, but I wish I could have said that to him before he left," said Vanessa Dominguez, Sergio's cousin. "I mean we always show it but we never say it and I guess I want to make sure he knew that I really did love him."

Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office is seeking information from anyone who was hunting in the area on November 15th.
