Teenager hit by car in Yakima remains in critical condition

Teenager hit by car in Yakima remains in critical condition
It was an innocent reaction that ended with horrifying consequences.

A 15-year-old boy has been in critical condition ever since being hit by car in Yakima this week.

Ryan Morris went into the street to pick up a letter that the wind blew out of his hand.

Ryan Morris's mom and dad have been by his side since a terrible accident Wednesday.

"My feelings right now are just concern and I know that all of this is in God's hands, so whatever happens is the Lord's will, so I'm sure that he's going to recover fine, I have that feeling," said Ken, Ryan's father.

Ken Morris and his family are hopeful Ryan will make a full recovery.
The 15-year old stepped in from of a car -- trying to grab a piece of paper.

The accident happened on the corner of Summitview and 56th Avenue.

Ryan has numerous broken bones.
But worst of all was the injury to his head.
It's left Ryan in a coma.
Ryan's father is still trying to process it all.

"I first learned of the accident when my son's friend gave me a call, he was going to meet them, so he was on his way over there, and he gave me a call, on the scene," said Ken.

Ken Morris and his wife are taking turns staying by Ryan's side.
They're continuing to talk to him and play some of his favorite music.
They hope he's there inside and can hear it, and feel their love.

We're very family-oriented, so the more family around the better.

The progress is considered positive, though he's still in critical condition.
Ryan opened his eyes Thursday, but doctors say he wasn't seeing out.

"I was concerned for his life, and that's about my biggest concern. I want to make sure that he's going to pull through this," said Ken.

The unusual twist is that Ryan's family knows the driver who hit him.
It happens to be one of their neighbors.
They know this was all just a terrible accident and this was not the driver's fault.
The focus now is simply on Ryan's recovery.

Ryan is being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center.
His family plans to stay with him until he makes a full recovery.
