SELAH --- Pay raises across the board in Selah, even to people who didn't want one.

Last night we told you about the city's proposal to give a 6% pay raise to city supervisor, Frank Sweet. That would up his pay from $98,000, to $103,000 next year which is less than the Grandview city administrator makes, but more than the former city manager for Sunnyside.

"I think we did a pretty thorough job of looking at all the categories to look at if we are in that comparable range, are we to high, are we too low?" Council Member Kevin Jorgensen said, as he talked about the recommendation.

After comparing wages at a few other cities their size, they decided to give Sweet the raise, city workers a 3 percent cost-of-living raise, and gave the mayor a raise, even though he didn't want one. They say they have been good at managing the city's money and have been making more money on building permits and sales tax this year. They wanted to up the mayors pay since he hadn't taken a raise in years and wanted the wage to have an appeal to future mayors.
