Arena Football Returns to Yakima
By Ryan Simms
YAKIMA -- It's been nearly a decade, but arena football is about to make a comeback in the Yakima area.
The Yakima Valley Warriors are coming to town, and that means football-hungry fans will soon be flocking to Yakima. "It will get people out of their homes. People from Ellensburg, and up and down the valley," says Mike Morrisette, of Yakima's Chamber of Commerce. As many as 5,000 people could attend every game. Morrisette tells Action News he expects local restaurants and sports bars to benefit the most from Yakima's newest sports team. Besides scoring a touchdown with local businesses, the Yakima Valley Warriors could also bring profits to the Sundome. "Anytime you get a prime tenet... it generates parking revenue, food revenue, and beer revenue. It's always a good thing," says Greg Lybeck, of the Sundome. In the next few months, team officials plan to unveil a huge marketing campaign for the Yakima Valley Warriors, with the hope of spreading the wealth around town. Tickets go on sale November 20, and will cost between eight and twenty dollars. Games will start in April. |
