Yakima County Voter Turnout
By Melissa Wagner
Yakima - Election night is over. The ballots are still being counted, and final numbers aren't expected until the end of the week, at the earliest. That's because the county auditor has another 14 thousand ballots to go through.
State voting officials were optimistically expecting a 53 percent voter turnout rate in this odd-year election. But that number was much lower, until today. " In the last two days, we've gotten a lot of ballots, which changed that percentage a little," said Corky Mattingly, Yakima County Auditor. 7000 ballots were brought in Wednesday morning, all from last minute voters. Pushing the overall voter turnout to 45%. The auditor hopes to count 3000 of those ballots Wednesday, and finish up by the end of the week, though it could go into next week. |
