Illegal Attempt in Kittitas County

KITTITAS COUNTY -- An attempt to increase the limits on the use of well water in Kittitas County is illegal. That's the decision of the State Attorney General.

The A.G. says the Department of Ecology tried to get the county to sign off on a plan to limit, or eliminate, the amount of water each household with a well could use. The county questioned whether the plan was legal since they say the way the D.O.E. wanted to limit water use went against state statute. And it turns out it was not legal.

The county expects to have a meeting with the D.O.E. to come up with a better solution to the water problems there.

"We're going to be with them very quickly and so we're hoping everyone comes to the table with some solutions and we move forward from there," Kittitas County Commissioner, Alan Crankovich said.

The county is still trying to work out an early end to the drilling moratorium.
