SELAH -- At least one person is dead after a car plunged off a cliff near Selah.

Rescue crews were at the Selah rest stop off the eastbound lane of interstate 82 just after 8:00 Monday night. Witnesses tell police they saw the car plunge off the edge of that rest stop. "Witnesses saw it accelerate through the parking lot, smash through a concrete curbing, then jump another roadway into the fenced area, ending up down the canyon," Sergeant Ed McAvoy, with the State Patrol told Action News.

Crews propelled off the top of the cliff to get to the ledge, where the car came to rest. They did find one man inside. They believe he was alone in the car.

The investigation into a cause is underway.
