Cars Flood Ellensburg Rodeo
By Ryan Simms
ELLENSBURG -- The Ellensburg Rodeo is underway, meaning tens of thousands of cars will be coming into town.
As rodeo fans arrive in Ellensburg, Sandy Sandall faces a daunting task. "We need all the parking we can get," he says. Sandall is the supervisor of parking at the Ellensburg Rodeo, and with his credentials, he has to be ready to accommodate any vehicle...big...or small. "We try to put them in here as tight as we can," Sandall tells Action News. Thousands of cars will soon be streaming into Ellensburg, and Sandall keeps track of all those open parking spaces by carrying around a virtual blueprint. The cost to use the parking lot could prove quite lucrative. "The closer you are to the fairgrounds, people will charge you ten dollars. The farther out, they'll charge you seven dollars," Sandall says. Looking to cash-in , other people are also getting into the parking business. "You'll find yards that people are parking their cars up and down the street," Sandall tells Ryan Simms. With 30,000 people expected to attend the rodeo, cars are being packed in acre by acre. |
