Fewer Car Thefts in Sunnyside
By Stacy Lilienthal
SUNNYSIDE -- It's a turn in trends. Sunnyside police say they're seeing a dramatic drop in auto thefts.
In the first half of this year, Sunnyside police saw a 43 percent drop in vehicle thefts. Police say the two-years of grants to pay for things like license plate readers, are making a difference. But it's up to you to keep the downward trend. "The big focus we found was just awareness. We want our community to realize that the majority of our auto thefts are occurring because they're leaving the keys in the ignition," Deputy Chief Phil Schenck said. Yakima and Kennewick Police are also seeing positive results because of the extra emphasis against car thefts in their area. |
