YAKIMA -- Police say they expect to have information to cut down on gang activity soon.

Yakima police chief Sam Granato said he's been working with legislators so that they could get information they need from the D.O.C. Right now, when a former gang member is released from prison, the D.O.C. isn't telling police where they live or who their associated with.

They say they want that information so they can make sure those people are keeping their conditions of release. "If they're not, they need to be picked up and locked up and sent back to prison. Because we feel a lot of this stuff is being directed by people who have recently been released from prison," Yakima police chief Sam Granato said.

He said representative Ross told him the information should be in their hands soon.
