Packed House for Wide-Spread Ordinance
By Stacy Lilienthal
YAKIMA -- It was a packed house as people voiced their opinion on an ordinance that would impact 45 percent of Yakima County Land.
County commissioners held the public hearing in the Convention Center but it was still standing room only. The county is considering an amendment that would make property owners throughout much of Yakima County go through an extra review to make sure any building or development on their land wouldn't impact endangered, threatened, or sensitive wildlife. Both sides spoke up. "We think it's a good thing. We think it's a thing required by state law," one man said. "It's potentially eliminating the ability of private citizens to go through the building permit, or development permit process," another said. This is the first of several public hearings planned before the county commissioners will make their final decision. |
