Officers File a Lawsuit Against the City
By Stacy Lilienthal
Yakima's police chief will be fighting two new lawsuits. More officers claim they were treated unfairly by the chief. And for this case, the city and the city manager are also going to need to defend themselves.
Two new lawsuits are underway. Just as a sexual harassment claim from officer Stacey Andrews was closed, there's a new claim that she was retaliated against by her chief. The second suit is from capt. Rod Light. He says he's also been treated wrongly after trying to report bad behavior by other officers. Action News was unable to get any comments from either side. City manager, Dick Zais says he can't comment on pending litigation, but the city will be defending the claims. The lawsuits don't say specifically what they are looking for out of the case, but claim the officers suffered, "lost wages and benefits, other actual monetary damages, emotional distress and pain." They say those amounts will be proven in court, and want the city to take action on the retaliation. The city manager says these claims have been brought out within the last few months. This is the formal step that makes them official. Court dates have not been set yet. |
