YAKIMA AND KITTITAS COUNTIES -- Sheriffs say rafting on the river is still dangerous. This past weekend, Kittitas County Sheriffs rescued a number of people from the Yakima river in the Elk Meadows area. About a dozen people were riding on just one raft when it hit a tree and dumped everyone. Five of them were kids. What bothers Sheriff's deputies most is one of the children was wearing a life vest entirely too big. It was made for a large adult.

Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers said, "We're trying to get people to focus on the necessity of life jackets on that fit, and are serviceable. This is one of many cases that we've had where we have children in a vest. Young people in vests that are too big for them."

Sheriff's deputies say the Yakima river should calm down just within weeks, so it is safest to avoid rafting until then.
