Groundwater Contaminated by Illegal Dump

Grandview -- The groundwater directly under the illegal dump near Grandview is contaminated, that's the word from the EPA. So what about the wells of nearby homes? The EPA tells us they don't know.

Starting next week environmental officials will be out testing the wells for homeowners a quarter to a half-a-mile away from the dump site. The neighbors Action News talked to Saturday say they're relieved the water is going to be tested. The majority of the homeowners had no idea the EPA was moving forward with the investigation.

"With the possibility of so many being contaminated I think it's up to the EPA to [test them], but the person who made the dump site should be responsible," says Leeann Catrvet, Grandview local.

The EPA tells us the dump site property owners are going to pay for the clean up. But environmental officials say they're still working on investigating the responsible party. We called the property owner of the Bethany Road dump site to ask them why they agreed to pay, we didn't get a call back.
