New City Councilwoman?
By Sade Malloy
Yakima -- The seat's only been open a week but Yakima city council has already found a new member. Maureen Adkison will be filling Neil McClure's old position.
McClure abruptly resigned a week ago citing an inability to work with certain council members. Adkison was appointed Tuesday night during the city council meeting. She tells Action News she's accepting the spot and tickled about the news. Adkison originally applied for Norm Johnson's seat back in November after he became a state rep. "You gotta remember whoever accepts this position is gonna hit the council running for election. It's unfair to draw it out two-three weeks while they're working on election decisions," says Bill Lover, Yakima City Councilman. City officials tell Action News there is no set outline on filling a vacant position, it's completely up to council. |
