Yakima -- Becoming a U.S. citizen is getting easier thanks to free legal advice.

Saturday was Citizenship Day in Yakima and more than 80 people turned out to finish their paperwork. It's part of a pilot program with the state that offers pro bono assistance in areas with limited access to lawyers.
"It costs money so unless they quality for programs it gets expensive. of course if they have children or obligations they always try to delay," says Teodora Martinez Chavez, translator.

Immigration officials tell us it costs $675 to become a citizen but additional document and attorney fees can go up to $10,000. If you want free legal help, the workshop will be in Pasco on May 30.
