Toppenish -- Police are doing it old school, pounding the pavement in Toppenish, walking a beat thru town. The new police chief wants his officers hitting the downtown sidewalks on a daily basis. "It's a presence thing, I think just because of our presence downtown some of the homeless aren't hanging around in the area and business owners get to voice their concerns and we get to address it as best we can," says Captain Curt Ruggles, Toppenish Police Department.

Officers are also talking with people one-on-one to hear about crime or other concerns. They need to get feedback from the public at least once a month.
