More Affordable Housing
By Sade Malloy
Yakima -- If your housing situation is getting tight Senator Maria Cantwell wants to keep money flowing for cheap housing.
Senator Cantwell was in Yakima Wednesday and says the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will help Yakima and is expected to pay for a new farm worker housing project in Granger. The extra housing is good news for locals like Stephanie Guerin who waited three years for an apartment with Yakima's Housing Authority. "I was working for a little bit but not anymore being able to have that your own place and have your son that's gonna be ok with a roof over his head, she tells Action News. Low-income housing is more important than ever, the Yakima Housing Authority says homelessness has increased by 60 percent over the past year in Yakima County. |
